Počátkem roku 1947 začala pilná korespondence mezi Josefem Váchalem a Ladislavem Liborem Loubalem. Mezi dopisy určenými Ladislavu Loubalovi se ocitly i dopisy, původně psané jiným adresátům, jež Váchal opomněl odeslat. Papíru bylo málo, a tak Váchal často použil i starý, z jedné strany již popsaný list. Vznikl tak kouzelný dokument, Váchalovým břitkým až sarkastickým způsobem komentovaná doba poválečná a díky vloženým cizím dopisům i jedinečný pohled na těžké období válečné.
