Exhibition Passions of Antonín Píč

Antonín Píč (1896 – 1967) was an auditor and later a registrar at the municipal office in Litomyšl. But his work was not his passion; his life was dominated by the muses. He was an outstanding musician and also composed his own music. He accompanied amateur theater productions with an orchestra, and even more often he would pick up a pencil and brushes to sketch or paint. It was likely his friendship with Josef Portman that led him to take up collecting ex-libris, to such an extent that he did not hesitate to correspond with colleagues from all over the world. And since he was collecting, he occasionally engraved a bookplate himself. Last but not least, he devoted himself to Esperanto, a language in which his son Karel particularly excelled.
Discover the quiet world of a man of many interests who, until now, remained unknown in Litomyšl. The exhibition is not being held at Portmoneum by chance — it was here that Píč met Josef Váchal, and he kept a key rack painted by Váchal for his entire life. This artifact is being presented to the public for the first time at the exhibition.

The exhibition opening will take place on Thursday, June 11, 2026, at 6:30 p.m. at Portmoneum – the Josef Váchal Museum. The exhibition is part of Smetana’s Artistic Litomyšl.
